A little bit of drama

Last night we had an cat enthuse come visit to see the kittens. Unbeknown to me, he was allergic to cats but couldn't resist cuddling and playing with them. Buddy in particular was showing off and was quite hyper active. He ran around the house, went behind the t.v and was play fighting with Macaroon. Towards the end of the night, Buddy was running around the house, and because he isn't used to floor boards he slipped and over extended his front leg. The poor thing was in pain and was limping. My partner Stefan wanted to take him to the after hours vet. Mind you it wold have cost a fortune. We waited until morning and Buddy had fully recovered. Despite the scare last night, Buddy is active as per usual. You think it would have calmed him down!

When I arrived home from work I found both Buddy and Macaroon chillin on our bed with the radio on in the background. I couldn't stop laughing! I wish I had taken a photo. Before bed I made a pasta salad for lunch tomorrow, and it became clear that Macaroon is a mini master chef! She sat by me and watched me cook! It was nice to share that with her.

As I lie in bed, the cats are full of energy. Lets hope they sleep well tonight.

Making themselves at at home

Buddy and Macaroon are definitely making themselves at home. They enjoyed lying on the couch when my partner and I are watching t.v or on our iPads or computers. They snuggle up to us and enjoy watching the football or boy shows like retro.

Tonight when I went out of the room, Macaroon meowed out for me and ran around looking me! That was the best moment!

We are currently looking for a cat tree for the kittens to occupy them and meet their climbing needs so hopefully they will quit climbing on everything!

First vet visit

Tonight Buddy and Macaroon had their first vet visit. There was no issues to be addressed, however it is always wise to have them checked in case there are things medically wrong. We have a seven day "warranty" where if there are medical issues the breeder is responsible.

I am pleased to announce we have two healthily kittens. They did so well at the vet and didn't make a fuss.

Living the dream

Buddy and Macaroon are sure living the dream at the moment. They seemed to have settled in to their new home and are understanding and following the routines. They are eating well, drinking heaps and using their kitty litter appropriately. We had to move their drinking station into the shower as Buddy likes to flick through the water trying to find the best bit of H2O. Weird I know!

Yesterday they spent most of the day exploring their surroundings and chilling on the window sill watching the world go by. Their favourite sleeping spot is on the dining chairs under the table. Last night I hosted an Intimo party with only a few guests and Buddy and Macaroon spent majority of the time sleeping. At around 8pm they became active and really tested the boundaries. Chewing cords, climbing behind the t.v and knocking photo frames on the bookcase! Mind you, this was all Buddy's destruction! Macaroon or Macca for short is quite timid and shy. I'm sure she will liven up in a few weeks. I caught her this morning in my wardrobe!

First night!

What a night of mayhem! Their first night in their new home was quite eventful. We stayed up with the kittens watching the football before containing them in half of the house. They were lively for an hour and decided to fall asleep at the feet of the bed. Their purr is quite loud not to mention their footprints! I've never had a cat sleep on my bed let alone two! I couldn't move all night afraid I would wake them.

At 2am my partners work phone rang as he is on call and that woke both Buddy and Macaroon! This is when the fun began, not for us mind you. For the future we will be putting away their toys with bells! They were so active, running around and jumping on and off the bed, sprinting up and down the highway and getting Into everything! Buddy is obsessed with iPhones!

They calmed down but were up to their tricks again at 5am! My partner, Stefan seems to think children will be easier to manage than these kittens! I had to laugh at that comment! As the sun rose and we were thinking of starting the day, that's when Buddy and Macaroon decided it was sleep time!!

As I write this, the kittens are up and about causing trouble around the house! This is going to be an adventure! Bring on day two!

Introducing Buddy and Macaroon!

Maine Coon. Maine Coon. What in the world is a Maine Coon? That question has led me on a journey and discovery of this graceful and elegant breed of cat. Originating from Maine in the United States, it is known as the biggest cat breed known to man.

My partner is a cat person whereas I am a dog person. When I lived at home I had a Cavalier King Charles named Missy. She was my best friend! Unfortunately when I decided to move out with my partner, I wasn't allowed to bring her along as we were renting. I was devastated but still visit occasionally. My mum has developed a fantastic relationship with Missy and they keep each other company.

We bit the bullet and decided to apply for permission to have a cat in our rental as we were ready to extend our family of two. My partner has always wanted the biggest cat breed in the world which was the Maine Coon. That was when our research began. Google search revealed the Maine Coon as the gentle giant of the cat world with a relaxed and chilled temperament. Our next step was to find a suitable breeder in our area. We live in Australia and the Maine Coon breed is quite rare so the search for a breeder was difficult. Word from mouth, helped us discover a breeder an hour away and she had kittens available.

Today was the day we headed to the cattery to have a look at the litter. What we discovered was way more than we bargained for. The 10 week old kittens were all taken but she had two grey and white kittens, 5 months old from a previous litter. They were brother and sister and the breeder could not bare the fact they could potentially be separated. The kittens had been together from day one and had developed a bond with each other. The kittens were the size of a full grown tabby cat and had delicate features and a well maintained coat. They were active and playful when left to roam freely. The breeder offered the two kittens for the price of one, a bargain we did not expect nor resist. After the paperwork was complete, we drove home with two beaded eyed kittens on the backseat, anxious of their next journey. My partner and I as new parents were anxious and excited for our new arrivals.

When we reached home we set up their room and slowly introduced Buddy and Macaroon to their new home. The male, Buddy was the more adventurous, poking his head around corner, getting into everything and testing the boundaries. Macaroon on the other hand was more observant and followed the lead of Buddy.

They were active for some of the afternoon and managed to calm down to watch the football on T.V late at night. They have settled and shown signs of comfort such as purring and rubbing up against our legs. They are both eating well, and love to splash in their water bowl!

Below are some photos of their first day with their new family. Enjoy

Maine Coon Manor Blog

Welcome to my blog ''Maine Coon Manor".

The Maine Coon breed is the biggest breed of cat where the males can reach 15 kilograms in weight. They are known as the gentle giants of the cat population with a beautiful and relaxed temperament. Most people, including myself, do not realise how big Maine Coons actually grow too. Their development is quite slow and will continue beyond other popular cat breeds. The male Maine Coons grow larger than the females. Maine Coons have a life expectancy of around 14-15 years. Their colours vary from grey and white, brown and white and red. They have pointy ears, a beautiful thick but manageable coat, big paws and delicate faces.

To sum up Maine Coons, they are dogs trapped in a cat's body! Such a playful personality and chilled attitude. I am not the biggest cat fan but Maine Coons have changed my view on the cat species.

Maine Coon Manor blog will be a online journal of the journey of my two Maine Coon kittens including stories, photos and the ups and downs of cat ownership!
